Interesting Biology Science Projects Provide Great Teaching Opportunities

It is sometimes difficult to demonstrate biological facts that are meaningful to students. Talking about something is often not as impressive as showing the students the events in a way that will stay with them. Knowledge that is caught is much more lasting than knowledge that is taught. With effective demonstrations, such as occur, for example, when you use Biology Science Projects, the students will hear, see, and experience life as it happens in front of them.

One important principal that must be learned is that of the semipermeable membrane. Osmosis is something that can be difficult to understand, but when a student can see it taking place, it becomes much easier to grasp. With the EggCellent Cell Membrane Activities, students will see a terrific demonstration of the permeable membrane. This kit sells for $71.99 and includes enough items for ten students to participate in the process. Group learning is a very effective way for young students to begin to grasp important facts. These types of Biology Science Projects do not have to be terribly involved but will create impressive learning opportunities.

A simple example of Biology Science Projects is a popular one even for younger children that uses celery and colored water. This is a great demonstration of how plants draw moisture into their systems. The student will place a stalk of celery, complete with leaves, into a beaker with water and food coloring. Just a drop or two of a dark color will be sufficient. As the stalk of celery continues to draw moisture into its leaves, the student will see the leaves begin to turn the color of the water. This will be an example of capillary action, also a simple demonstration of how the circulatory system works.

Biology Science Projects give students real life examples of how various systems work. With more advanced students it is possible for them to see actual chromosomes by using the saliva glands from common fruit fly larvae, stained with color, and smashed between microscope slides. If done properly, the cell wall will break and the chromosomes will appear to cover the microscope slide.
